A University Of California physicist, Dmtitri Krioukov, argued his way out of a $400 ticket by presenting a 4-page paper in which he argued that he could not have failed to stop at a stop sign. The paper titled "The Proof Of Innocence" was presented at a courtroom.
He argued that the officer who gave him the ticket had his view briefly blocked and that the officer's distorted view of his car had confused him into thinking Krioukov hadn't stopped. The paper is available here.
