Police Uncover Baby Making Factory in Uyo

Police have uncovered a baby making factory in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state where young girls are made to conceive after which the babies are sold to ritualists or other members of the company. The illegal home was reported to be owned by one Dr. Wisdom Mbaba and is located at Ekpene Ukim, in Uruan Local Government Area of the state.

Following a tip off from a concerned citizen in the area, police raided the building and rescued about 7 girls between the ages of 18 and 20. One of the girls rescued, Aniebet Okon, said she had gone there to abort a 5-month old pregnancy but the doctor advised her not to do so and that he'll pay her N70,000 for the baby after delivery. She said that the baby was taken away from her as soon as it was born without her even seeing it not knowing whether it was a boy or a girl. Nigerian tribune gathered that young girls wishing to abort unwanted pregnancies were lured to the factory for abortion operation, after which the unwanted babies are negotiated and sold to ritualists. Dr. Mbaba managed to escape arrest by the police but his wife was arrested. She admitted that her husband was a specialist in abortion but claimed he had stopped doing the business for some years now. She also admitted that she doesn't run the business with her husband and that she knows nothing about it.
