Charles Taylor Sentenced To Fifty Years Imprisonment

Charles Taylor, former Liberian President, who has been undergoing trial for helping rebels commit some of the worst war crimes in history, has been jailed for 50 years. The sentence was less than the 80 years which was sought by the prosecution. Edward Conteh, a Sierra Leonean who lost his left arm to the rebels said, "Taylor is now 64 years old, I know that he cannot do 50 years in prison, so I'm satisfied." The presiding judge of the Special Court for Sierra Leone, Richard Lussick, described some of the most hideous atrocities which include the amputations of limbs which became a hallmark of the conflict, the gang rape victim whose eyes were torn out so she couldn't identify the perpetrators, the mother forced to carry a bag of human heads - including those of her children. "She was forced to laugh while carrying the bag dripping with blood," Lussick said. "She saw the heads of her children."
The sentence will be served at a high security prison in Britain and the six years he spent during the trial will count against his term. Taylor's defense lawyer said that rather than promoting international justice, the sentence would only encourage embattled leaders to fight to the end, rather than give in and face possible trial. The defence said it would appeal the sentence, claiming that the prosecution made payments to its witnesses.

Reactions From UNILAG. Or Should I Say MAU

Following the recent change of name of the former University of Lagos to Moshood Abiola University by President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday, during a democracy day broadcast, students of the university have embarked on a protest in which they have blocked both sides of the Third Mainland Bridge.

The school authority has also asked all students to vacate the premises before 11am this morning as the school will be shut down for two weeks. And it doesn't end there. According to Linda Ikeji, the school ALUMNI has taken the federal government to court over the renaming.

Man Regains Freedom After Being Incarcerated For Six Years For a Rape He Didn't Commit

In 2002, Wanetta Gibson, whose photo is shown below, accused  Brian Banks of raping her when she was just 15 years old. She told the police that Banks dragged her across their school campus and raped her. He spend more than five years in prison and another five years on parole and had to register as a sex offender and was still wearing an ankle monitor until Thursday May 24th when he was exonerated after Wanetta admitted that she lied about the rape.

Wanetta Gibson
While Brian was locked up, Wanetta's family successfully sued the school district, claiming that it had failed to adequately protect her and the school paid $1.5 million to the family.

Brian Banks
Wanetta eventually admitted in a videotaped interview with a private investigator that Brian never raped her. She said she would go through with helping him, but doesn't want her family to have to pay back the amount of money given to them from the law suit. She later refused to repeat her story to prosecutors, but her videotaped confession was enough to exonerate Brian.

Cameroonican Government Calls Bishop T.B. Joshua "An Agent of Satan"

The Cameroonian government has blacklisted Prophet T. B. Joshua, saying that he is an agent of satan hoodwinking unsuspecting members of the public with "diabolical miracles". The Cameroonian Foreigh Affairs Minister, Mr. Henri Eyebe Ayissi, in an official communique he issued titled: "The Devel Is In the Hourse", described T. B. Joshua as a "son of the devil" pretending to be "a man of God". He warned Cameroonians to desist taking trips to Lagos for miracles in T. B. Joshua's church, or face the consequences as the country will not stand by them in the event of any unfortunate circumstances.

I wonder where they got their proof from or what they have as proof.
